Cultivate is a Las Vegas operated marijuana dispensary that is widely known for their large variety of Cannabis and CBD products. Who so graciously agreed to sponsor our Exhibit Happy Hour. In addition to supplying us with some awesome swag, their inventory manager, Travis, joined our Zoom call and took a few minutes to teach us about the medicinal uses for cannabis. Here is a snapshot of what we learned.

Cannabis, also known as marijuana among many other names, it is a psychoactive drug from the Cannabis plant used primarily for medical and/or recreational purposes. The main psychoactive component of cannabis is tetrahydrocannabinol. There are also over 100 different terpenes found in cannabis plants. Every marijuana strain tends toward a unique terpene type and composition. Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in cannabis. They are shown to play a large role in the plant’s medical benefits.

Choosing a strain for your specific need and/or desire is the best way to maximize effectiveness.

Leafly has a great Terpene chart to serve as a resource for making an educated strain selection.

Some of the best Terpenes are:

Limonene: Elevates mood and stress relief. Used to aide with anti-depression, anti-anxiety, chronic pain, gastric relief and anti-fungal. Used commonly to help alleviate stress and anxiety. It has been shown to boost energy, help combat free radicals and assists in the absorption of cannabinoids into the body.

Linalool: Promotes relaxation and calming effects. Most commonly found in Lavender. Aids in stress relief and has many anti-depression/anti-anxiety properties.

Myrcene: Overall relaxation for body and mind. Strains found to have higher levels of Myrcene will enhance lower THC plants making the strains increasingly more antiseptic, anti-bacterial and antifungal. It also aids well with inflammation.

Caryophyllene: Great antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, helps with pain, muscle spasms and even insomnia. Caryophyllene activates your CB2 receptors which is why it contributes to the protection of your body and brain from disease.

A & B Pinene: They are Bronchodilators which aides in dilating the lungs’ airways. Bronchodilators are typically used for treating asthma. This terpene also assists with memory retention and alertness. Used often when getting creative or exercising.

Humulene: Great anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. The only discernible physical affect it has on the body is it acts as an appetite suppressant instead of the dreaded “munchies” commonly associated with marijuana consumption. Most commonly found in basil and hops.

And probably the two most popular strains...

THC: Promotes the release of a hormone called Ghrelin which stimulates appetite and releases dopamine this is what regulates the actual brains enjoyment of eating.

CBD: Non-psychoactive which means you won’t actually get “high” by consuming it. It’s used to aide in a wide variety of medical conditions: seizures, inflammation, pain, psychosis, mental disorders, nausea, migraines, depression, and anxiety. It is Federally Legal and can even be purchased online.
