From March 17-20, more than 30,000 security professionals will descend upon the Sands Expo in Las Vegas for ISC West 2020.
Known for being the largest security industry trade show in the United States, ISC West can be quite the bear to navigate. You’re in luck, though. We’ve got you covered.
Here’s everything you need to know before you book your flight to Vegas for ISC West 2020.
Step One: Prepare Yourself
The first step in planning for next year’s show is to take a look at the past year’s show. Specifically, some of the notable trends that came out of ISC 2019.
Among those trends, as compiled by the show’s sponsor, Security Informed, was the heavy presence of technology such as cloud-based solutions and an emphasis on smartphones. There was also some lingering trepidation within the industry about the deployment of Artificial Intelligence and analytics software.
The presence of technology was also felt on the design front, with many booths incorporating new tech into their presence. Data storage provider Seagate, for instance, employed a race car game to highlight smart traffic technology, which the company reported drew large crowds throughout the show.

Step Two: Prepare Your Booth
Planning your exhibit begins with planning out your marketing campaign, which should be consistent and cohesive. How do you want to be remembered after the show? Talk it out with your team, then build your campaign around that answer.
The key here is to keep your message simple, so it’s memorable. Plus, it’s crucial to take the time to ensure your team is all on the same page.
Once your marketing campaign starts coming together, the next step is to find a vendor to help you put together an incredible exhibit. We highly recommend going with a vendor that is local to where ISC West is hosted — Las Vegas. And that’s not just because it’s the place we call home.
Well … maybe we’re a little biased. But hear us out. There are actually so many benefits to working with a partner who is practically right next door to the show. These include:
- Faster reaction time in case problems occur
- Savings on shipping costs
- Venue expertise
- A massive knowledge of trade shows in the city
- Local connections and insider info
Once you’ve chosen your vendor, it’s time to get to work designing your booth. We’ve already written about the importance of incorporating a data-driven design process as well as how your trade show booth’s floor plan can make or break your show.
Step Three: Prepare Your Team
Beyond ensuring everyone is on the same page, it’s important to get the logistics of your transportation and hotel figured out well in advance.
Book your flights and rooms as early as possible — for ISC West 2020 in March, we recommend looking as early as October or November — in order to get the best options when it comes to prices and availability.
As for meeting venues and entertainment during the trip, keep in mind that for major trade shows things fill up quickly. So, if you have a large group, you’ll want to get reservations down around the same time you book flight and hotel reservations. We’ve put together a list of some off-the-beaten-path places you can check out.
Here are a few local insider tips for making those reservations:
- For cheaper entertainment and dining options, go off-strip to Downtown Vegas or the Art District.
- Remember that Las Vegas isn’t super dense, so you’ll need to account for transportation logistics and the expense for getting around.
- Take care of yourself, including investing in a good water bottle, wearing sunscreen (even in March), and even asking your hotel for a humidifier to combat the drying effects of your hotel room’s air conditioner.
